Tour of California Returns to Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake has been selected as the race’s Stage 6 Finish on Friday, May 18, 2012. The City of Palmdale will serve as the Host City and start location for Stage 6, which ultimately finishes with a demanding climb to Big Bear. Big Bear’s local Seven Summits Challenge was originally created to support Big Bear Native Jordan Romero‘s actual quest to conquer all of the highest Seven Summits of the world. Big Bear Paddlefest

Billed as a festival of clinics, races and vendors for canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards, Big Bear PaddleFest took place on July 9th and 10th, 2011 on the South Shore Swim Beach of Big Bear Lake. Watch the video with scenes from Sunday’s races shot from the chase boat:

REI / NOLS Wilderness First Aid

The Big Bear Discovery Center is hosting a Wilderness First Aid course in Big Bear over the weekend of July 16 & 17, 2011. Spring Snowshoe Up Sugarloaf

The plan was simple: head straight up from the top of Sand Canyon Road to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, elevation 9952′. A bit over 3 miles as the crow flies, and 3000′ of climbing. While it was April and there was some snow remaining in the Big Bear Valley, we didn’t know the exact conditions we would encounter as we ascended. The summit certainly looked snowy, but whether we would encounter hard ice, soft snow, or significant bare patches was unknown. So we came prepared for all three.

Big Bear Community Bike Rides

On Saturday, May 1, over 40 local Big Bear cyclists braved 40 degree weather to participate in the first Community Bike Ride. Riders ranged from 7 to 74 years old and enjoyed a slow and easy course along the Eagle Point bicycle route in the City of Big Bear Lake. Even the City’s Mayor, Liz Harris, joined in the fun.
Two more rides are scheduled for the following Saturdays on May 8th and May 15. Riders of ALL levels are encouraged to participate. Rides begin at 10am at the Snow Summit …
