Big Bear Community Bike Rides

3 May 2010 649 views 3 Comments

On Saturday, May 1, over 40 local Big Bear cyclists braved 40 degree weather to participate in the first Community Bike Ride. Riders ranged from 7 to 74 years old and enjoyed a slow and easy course along the Eagle Point bicycle route in the City of Big Bear Lake. Even the City’s Mayor, Liz Harris, joined in the fun.

Two more rides are scheduled for the following Saturdays on May 8th and May 15. Riders of ALL levels are encouraged to participate. Rides begin at 10am at the Snow Summit remote parking lot on Brownie Lane (behind Goldsmith’s). Registration, which is free and includes a free tee shirt, begins at 9am. A bicycle mechanic will also be on hand to help out with basic repairs. Discount bike rentals are available at most local rental locations. Helmets are required. The Community Bike Rides are sponsored by the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation, Big Bear Cycling, and Open Air Big Bear. thanks to everyone that came out…I’m not part of the staff…I’m just a cyclist that loves to see people discover the simple beauty of a bike ride…whether you ride around the block or around the world…

Thanks Phil, Randy and everyone else for a great fun ride. I wish we could be there for the next two. Congratulations on setting up this event.

Met Phil on a bike path and went on the community ride the next week. I loved seeing the diversity of riders from new to pro. I was a roadie who lost the love of the bike [the skinny tires and small seat perhaps], but I had a blast riding my suspended Specialized around the lake!
