Pebble Plain Cleaned – Moonloaf Dump Removed

Over 150 volunteers from a variety of organizations spent the morning cleaning up decades of dumped trash on US Forest Service Pebble Plain land West of Sugarloaf on August 28, 2010. It’s amazing what a motivated group of people can do on a Saturday morning. Forty tons of trash, including 6 cars, 2 boats, 1 motorhome, and countless couches were removed from the San Bernardino National Forest land, sometimes referred to as “Moonloaf.” For decades this area had been used as an illegal dumping ground.

Seven Oaks Trail Rehab Progresses

Once impassable just a few months ago, the Seven Oaks Trail continues to emerge from hiding. The Big Bear Valley Trail Foundation’s Seven Oaks Trail Rehabilitation Project, with support from the US Forest Service, continues to make progress and is almost passable from top to bottom. While substantial trail corridor and tread work remain, the ability to traverse the trail without swimming through White (or Buck) Thorn and crawling over fallen trees is significant. Pebble Plain Clean Up

Date: Saturday, August 28, 2010.
Time: Check in 8:30am – 9:00am at Chatauqua High School parking lot on the corner of Baldwin and Maple. Work from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
What: Help us clean up a portion of our very unique Pebble Plain habitat located on US Forest Service land West of Sugarloaf. A BBQ lunch for volunteers will be served from 1:00pm – 2:00pm.
